Separate anonymity from confidentiality
An anonymous user experience is not the same as legal clinical confidentiality. Anonymity means the platform may not ask for your real name. Confidentiality means there are legal protections governing how your data is stored, accessed, and disclosed. Most AI support tools offer some degree of anonymity but do not provide the same confidentiality guarantees as a licensed therapist-client relationship.
Read platform terms to understand retention, deletion, and access practices. Key questions: How long is your data stored? Who within the company can access it? Can it be used to train AI models? Is there a clear deletion process? The answers to these questions vary significantly between platforms.
